FIRE number calculator
Illustration only. This calculator uses simple, constant assumptions you choose. Real returns vary year to year, taxes and fees are not modeled, and results are not a prediction or advice. Use it to explore, then plan with a professional.

How it works
- FIRE number = annual spending ÷ withdrawal rate. At 4%, that's 25× spending.
- Each year: end balance = start balance × (1 + real return) + annual savings (contributions assumed at year end).
- Using a real (inflation-adjusted) return keeps everything in today's dollars.
- Not modeled: taxes on withdrawals, fees, sequence-of-returns risk, Social Security, health insurance. Read FIRE and taxes for why taxes matter.
